It’s been “all quiet on the eastern front” here as we’ve been cooped up for the summer working on the beginnings of our next album. We’re all pale-faced from endless days in our dark band room and sleepless nights of city musings; needless to say, it’s been a strange summer. It’s tough to admit how slow this writing/recording process has been but we’ve learned a lot about our musical makings and just what it takes to make a quality recording. Hopefully you’ll remain patient with us because this next record is what makes/breaks a band and it’s listeners. It’s very special to us and we are tapping into all personal, emotional, and creative substances to make it.
This record in particular poses the pivotal question of whether it is more important to write music for the people of the world, or to write it for yourself. If you want to have a career in the music industry you have to SELL SELL SELL and it’s in your best interest to write catchy pop songs. This next record is NOT made of catchy pop songs–it’s music that makes us tick; words and melodies that are reflective of our personal struggles and desires. It’s our biggest hope that we are able to write the music that we love and the rest will fall into place.

Anyways, thank you always for supporting and hope to see you while the weather’s still warm

love, Halli

THE WHITE MULE, Columbia SC:

The perfect example of a quality music venue. Dimly lit and displayed with local art and festive décor; the temperature was just the right amount of cozy to oppose the nippy December air. The stage was small yet fitting and we played to a crowd of an older generation that was inviting and receptive to our sound. What a great benefit it is to share music with a warm and responsive group of people. There were three acts last night, all of which were different in volume and style; but every note shared on the stage was quite adept. There’s much to learn from those that have spent their lives on the road and last night’s show was the kind to fuel our progress.

Well it’s a terrible day outside, but the music is flowing on the inside, and I couldn’t think of anything better to perform right now than a good ol’ blog. Seems I may be the only one who reads these, but when I think about it its a pretty good thing that the band is hard at work with other projects, most of which will come to fruition shortly, for we know the hard work does pay off.

Thank the Lord! That we have finally gotten to talking about our next album, for I think we, and those who enjoy Do it to Julia need a supplement to “Archie Carroll”, as it has been over a year since we released the album, not to mention started recording it well over a year and half ago. If you have seen us live in the past 6 months, you know the sound is ever changing (hopefully for the better) from where it was, and that we have mucho new material to share with the world, a lot of which could turn out to be very interesting when we have the chance to sit down and work it out with the recording process.

Also one last word for those who were in Boone when we played at the Dragonfly Theater, but thank you very much for coming and still continuing to support us up in the mountains. It is easy to forget just how long we worked and played during our time in Boone, and those that supported us from the very beginning, and when we do, we know the show suffers when we take it all for granted. I think when we played last time, all of us after living in Asheville for awhile have come to a much greater level of appreciation of Boone and just how much it still is and will always be our home.

Having Said That.. we hope to always be traveling up north to play the High country whenever we can, but so far I think we can all agree that Asheville has been nothing but welcoming and hospitable to us since we’ve arrived, and we look forward to spreading the musical wings for a very long time here, both live and on the record, which I cannot wait to start building.

-Steve

In another time they will talk, they will say we had it all. We talk now about the love that was sent, from above or below. We spin back round to a place from before, in the summer breeze, like waves on a shore. The generations flow like a spring, each one finding grace beyond a words expectation, but now we return to that fountain in which we learned to love, and things are still the same.

But the echos build as our minds begin to flow, and we finally remember the lessons of old. Like a harvest in the sun, the world turns again upon itself and can see the grace that shines from within. Under the sun the people come together, to reap the harvest it has grown. We come together as one vibration, one day, one night, as we carry upon the winds an alter of life, spanning forth from the mountain the same echos we have always known. Bring it back, again to the river. We have only what the sun has shown, the land and ourselves is all we’ve ever known.

White is empty of a fire
Delivered always from the mire
Golden, do the harps not tire
Full of youth they sing

Red weighs heavy on the eyes
And memories of a searing cry
Blind then does the red soul fly
Below the seventh ring

From a child born in bed,
To a smile, it’s been said,
To a veil upon her head,
It all begins again

You my child are but white
Piercing through the pressing night
But as I sail from down below,
It all begins again

Such a wonderful sound, all within, but everyone around. Slowly do the sparks ring through the afternoon, when at last the search for them has been laid to rest. All good things come to an end, and who could understand that better than the messenger, a detached weightless hammer. The only sound that matters now is not of substance, but of something higher, that which can never be known, just felt. The prophet is loved, but they allow it, and this is not the path as the new words come from a dark and misunderstood place. Who is the messenger and who is the prophet, for if they both must feel the words to speak of them accurately there is no difference. The responsibility is of they who bring the word, for if only they can hear it, how much do they keep for themselves. Now then does a messenger understand the end and the lack of glory it may bring. Even so, along side everything else, the faith makes it whole again, whether or not it may in fact be. All the messenger knows is that it means something to him, and the love is allowed, but this time it is the self love, so where is the difference.

Involving chance, who is to say you might not be here? It is amazing how many things good or bad can happen given a minor sway in a split second, and the right place at the right time. Every decision a person makes effects the outcome of some future time in their life, whether they know it or not, and every little detail to be noticed within a day plays a role. The time you leave for work might spare your life in an accident, the people you know bring with them others who might just change your life, and who could predict any of it. Have faith then, that everything you do, if what you do is for the betterment of yourself and the rest of the world, that life will be lived, and whether or not there is reason behind anything that happen, life is blind much like so many other beautiful things in the world. It is another beautiful day in Boone, and some things are best discussed on a Tuesday afternoon.
